🏡In the idyllic Devon village of Camborne all is not as peaceful as it seems. Two close women live in cottages 1 and 3, either side of the new neighbor to their small village, the flamboyant Mr. Cadmus. What starts as a humorous, satirical and cozy read turns into a rather obscure ending!
🦜1981. We are given glimpses into the lives of the three main characters: The inseparable spinster cousins, Maud Finch and Millicent Swallow, and the Italian gentleman, Theodore Cadmus, who arrives in his canary yellow car, wearing colorful clothes and bringing along his enjoyably profane pet parrot. Soon he’s paid them both visits and before long, all three will have become regular companions.
🔪The spinsters allude to carry dark, buried secrets. So does Mr. Cadmus. Events unfold slowly and soon after, the life of this sleepy town is rattled by an increasing number of deaths, keeping the locals gossiping.
The mystery surrounding Mr. Cadmus starts as something the reader is eager to de-mystify. Because why on earth would he come from the small Mediterranean island to this little sleepy town of all? [...]
[...] an oddly amusing read! Definitely not the last - I am intrigued to read more of P. Ackroyd, who turned the plot of a classic crime thriller into a compleeeetely twisted one!
